Patient Care Assistant (PCA) / Healthcare Assistant (HCA)

This 3-month Patient Care Assistant (PCA) / Healthcare Assistant (HCA) programme is designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to support patients and residents in healthcare settings.

The programme consists of 1 month of theoretical learning and 2 months of hands-on training, preparing participants to assist with basic patient care under the supervision of trained nurses.

Participants will develop practical skills to support patients with their daily care needs, promote comfort and safety, and recognise and report changes in a patient’s condition.

What Will You Learn?

• Provide basic care and support to patients in healthcare and community settings.
• Assist patients with feeding, bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene.
• Assist with moving and transporting patients safely.
• Respond to patients’ requests for assistance.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable patient environment.
• Monitor and record patients’ nutritional intake and output.
• Recognise changes in a patient’s general condition and report them promptly.
• Assist trained nurses with simple non-sterile procedures.
• Provide basic first aid when required.
• Alert trained nurses during emergencies.
• Support social interaction and recreational activities for patients and residents.
