IMC successfully organised its first alumni networking event since the acquisition of the college in 2012 by IMU Health Sdn Bhd. It was an adventure and a challenge to reach out to past graduates as some have progressed or moved away from the profession, with some even serving overseas. This also included graduates from the Pantai College of Nursing & Health Science.
The event started with a warm welcome from IMC’s Head of Nursing Programme, Ms Ng Kok Toh, followed by sharing sessions from past alumni who are now in the Education and Healthcare sectors. Ms Suhaili Retho, the Nursing Recruitment Specialist and Employee Counsellor for Hospital Pantai Kuala Lumpur shared with the audience the overview of the nursing journey in healthcare and current trends to staying relevant in the industry. The opportunities for promotions are aplenty with the Parkway – Pantai Group but nurses need to take the next step to continue their learning in clinical areas and upgrade certifications as well. Ms Suhaili also gave a brief glimpse of her humble journey, working her way up in stressful environments and pressures of a big hospital.
Current IMC Lecturer, Ms Thilagavathy Muniandy, who is the Programme Coordinator for Post Basic Intensive Care Nursing, also shared her journey as a student to staff nurse and returning to her alma mater to serve. She relishes in keeping up with the latest professional developments to ensure her students are up-to-date in their intensive care wards.
Dr Lee Ching Li, Programme Director for Diabetes Management & Education, International Medical University was also invited to present diabetes education as further learning option for the alumni. The upward statistics of obesity in the country and region will only require more nurses and other healthcare professionals to educate communities in curbing the disease.
The event was made livelier with a brief dance performance from current students showing off their K-Pop dance skills. The event concluded with attendees enjoying tea while snapping photos for personal memories.
We wish to thank all guests and speakers for attending and look forward to seeing you in future events.
